Body image is a very important part of living in today’s world. We’re all obsessed with looking slim and healthy and most people have tried some form of diet or exercise regime. For some people, their weight may remain stable and healthy but small pockets of fat will persist and not break down. In these cases, liposuction surgery is necessary in order to remove the fatty tissue and allow the patient to live a happy life. The surgery is totally safe and very easily performed.
The surgical procedure of liposuction, as with most surgical procedures, begins with a form of anesthetic. Depending on the type of liposuction and the area of the body it’s being performed on, you will either undergo a local anesthetic – a numbing of the area being operated on – or a general anesthetic whereby you will be rendered unconscious while the procedure is carried out. Both types of anesthetic are completely pain free and you won’t have anything other than a slight numbness following the operation.
After a short while, you will feel the anesthetic start to take hold. Certain types of liposuction operations and different areas of the body may require fluids to be injected. Next, the surgeon will make some tiny incisions in the flesh around the area being operated on. The incisions really are very small – usually somewhere between a quarter of an inch and a third of an inch. This means you won’t have any nasty scars or marks left after the operation and the healing process is very quick.
Next comes the fat removal. The surgeon will insert a small vacuum tube (known as a cannula) into the incision and will ensure it reaches the deep fat layer which is being removed. He will break up the fat cells by manipulating the vacuum tube and will remove them using suction through the vacuum tube or an additional syringe. Naturally, blood and other matter will be extracted along with the fat cells so you will be given additional bodily fluids via an intravenous drip while this takes place.
Finally, the surgeon will usually use a few stitches to close the incision. Some doctors leave the incisions open – this is perfectly normal. In fact, this will reduce the amount of bruising and swelling you may experience following surgery. As the incisions are very small, you are unlikely to experience any problems. The process is quick, easy and relatively painless. You’ll be able to enjoy your new body image and the happiness it brings right away.
